Okay, so I saw Avitar.  Great movie!  But that’s not what I want to talk about.  I want to comment on the 401/410 junction.  I went to see the movie on an IMAX screen.  Since we don’t have any such thing in the tri-cities I had to go to Mississauga.  I quickly glanced at google maps and decided that 401 to 410 south would be the best way to go.  I guess I didn’t look close enough.  I realized that it wasn’t called 410 when you go south; it’s actually the 403.  What I didn’t realize is that there just simply isn’t a ramp to go in that direction.  Sorry east bound 401 drivers – it just isn’t an option available to you.  Can I interest you in 410 north where the traffic is slowed down due to an accident in the south bound lanes?  You know – the lanes you want to be in?  So once you get through the slowdown that is due to the rubbernecking, you’ll have to get off at the first exit (Courtneypark, 3 km north) and go through the legitimate slowdown that is in fact still north of the 401 and therefore would not have been a problem had the desired ramp been available!  So we ended up only just making to the movie on time (sitting right at the front of course) but thankfully, the experience still wasn’t ruined for me.

Okay, after 3 hours of movie it was time to head home.  410 north to the 401 west was my plan.  Approaching the 401 I was given 2 options:  401 east collector or 401 east express.  So they had the budget for 2 ramps I guess.  He who has will be given more?!  Whatever.  Anyway,  I chose 401 east express, because it was the left lanes; I was still hanging on to a thread of hope that there might be an option further along.  Nope.  401 east collector would have been better because I would have been able to turn around at Dixie Rd, which is only 2 km is the wrong direction.  Instead, I had to go all the way to Eglington – about 8 km the wrong way.  Oh, and I had to make sure to avoid the 427 exit in the process of course!

Now this is where I came up to a new problem..  I followed Eglington to Martin Grove where I was told I can’t make a u-turn.  They must have seen me coming..  No time of day restrictions or anything; just, “No.”  “Don’t do it.”  Okay, left onto Martin Grove it is..  Took that up to the first street (Richgrove).  Again, absolutely no u-turns permitted.  So I had to turn left again onto a shady looking street and turn around in a construction lot driveway.  Now I’m finally retracing my steps!  You have no idea how happy I was to see that sign for 401 West!  Adversity does make you appreciate the little things, doesn’t it?
